Jeffree Star Cosmetics "Blue Velvet" Review

Recently, I purchased Jeffree Star's "Blue Velvet" from his cosmetic line, and it was my first run in with his lip products. I was veeeery excited to try his liquid to matte lipstick, especially in blue (it's my favorite color), because he gives equal value to "Alternative" lipstick colors. When he first launched, he offered 3 shades, a red, a pink, and a PURPLE. Highly unusual and highly AWESOME, so he already commanded a great amount of respect for me. When he said he was releasing a line of blues in my birthday month (June), I decided it was time to give his product a try.

First Impression:

The lipstick came wrapped up in this cute little Jeffree Tissue paper and had veeeery blue packaging. From the swatches I had seen online, it looked like it would be a more royal blue shade, which was what I was hoping for.

After wearing it several times with many different things, I found that for my skin tone, the color came out a lot darker on. I almost thought I was wearing the darkest blue released, "Abused", by mistake the first time I put it on. I'm so pale, any kind of dark lipstick I wear just looks darker against my skin.

Against this face that I did, which featured blue contouring, the color looked more blue, like I had originally expected.

Featured on my top lip here, the color looked darker and more intense against my natural skin tone.

Honestly, this shade was not what I expected, but I still like it. It comes off as more intense than I intended, but sometimes that's what a look needs. It's very pigmented and dries relatively quickly (1-2 minutes). It is a true matte, and didn't come off when I kissed my BF (a kiss, not making out), and needed very little touching up after eating. Applying lipgloss over it, however, should be done with care, it can ruin the finish and move the product around.

I kind of wish there was an optional "Sealer Gloss" like Maybelline NY has for their liquid lipstick, just to hold it on longer, but other than that I have very few complaints. Good job, Jeffree ;)
