I'm Sick So Lets Do Makeup!

That is the first thought that sets in when I'm sick but have slept so much my head hurts. Usually, I stay away from the paints, but I had to do a quick paint up for a class. Even though I was sick. So here it is, my exploration of face space!

Anyway, I like it, and hope to expand upon the design now that I'm better.

Facepainting 101, as told by my Cousin

My cousin Nikki has been facepainting commercially for quite a while now, and she says there a 3 faces you need to know before you start:

-The Tiger
-The Princess Face
-The Butterfly Face

Seriously, if you know these 3, you are golden to start. Then you can just build your repertoire from there! Hence all the tigers I've been doing.

It's about practice and repetition if you want to be as fast and precise as you'll need to be. That's just what I hear.

Tiger, Tiger

I have a newfound fascination with animals, and thus I have been painting a lot of them... but in particular Tigers. Tigers are so much fun! My boyfriend was nice enough to let me paint him as one, so here's the comparison.

Eh? Eh?

Hawk Girl

I am in love with birds, and came up with a concept of a "Hawk Princess" with jewels embedded in her feathers that she's stolen from gardens and people. Here's my girl with her little Rupee tiara ;) Link will be looking for that!

Kind of intense, but in a good way.

Que the Lovey Dovey

Valentine's Day has come and gone, but here is some of the makeup I did inspired by Singles Awareness Day/Prove-Your-Love-To-Me Day.

This look was done entirely with lipstick and black eyeliner for a contest. Nothing else. ;)
One of my Date Night looks that seemed appropriate. Piiiiink.
Lastly, a Cupid look from long ago.

ZOMBAAAAE

I am definitely not a fan of the undead, but on a leap of faith, I attempted some zombie makeup. It didn't turn out all so bad. So here's the comic book zombie and realistic zombie, without prosthetics or much gore. I hate gore. So much.

Illusionistic Makeup

The techniques we have been learning in my theater makeup class for the past several weeks have involved altering facial features dramatically. So here is the fruit of my labor for the past 3 weeks.

Old people makeup, most recent.
Crooked Nose, oldest of the 3
Skinny vs. Rotund Facial Features

Happy Hollitag!

Holiday faces and themed faces are often super fun for me, so here are some from last season!

 Menorah Face
 Black Friday Warrior
Fall Face(s) ;)

Enjoy!

Ah, Mistakes.

I believe that learning from failure is the best way to move forward after one, so on principal I always photograph my work and I always post it online for a period of time. Because acting like it never happened won't help, I need to acknowledge it. Anyhow, this face is one of my least favorite I have ever done, the line quality is poor, and so is the coverage, but it taught me several valuable lessons.

As a concept I don't think it was a bad idea, but the execution definitely needs work. Perhaps I'll try it again someday.

So.. Back In Time

I began a theater makeup class this semester at my college, and I feel the techniques I have learned in there, even after only 5 weeks of practice, have elevated my understanding of the human face exponentially. So here's a back to the beginning post, and hopefully y'all will see progress as much as I do.

The first face we ever did was to understand contouring the face with the natural highlights and shadows there, something I had only guessed at before. Intuitively, I was alright, but now armed with the knowledge of light and shadow, my work (the Ram in particular) has improved.

The Ram: Chinese New Year

I know the Chinese New Year was about a week and a half ago, but this look is quite a milestone for me in terms of showing how far along my technique has come. So without further ado:

Here is the look along with my Instagram handle ;) So first thing, it's green. There are zero green goats, rams, or sheep in the world, unless we're talking about Beast Boy. Coincidentally though, that's exactly what we're talking about! This idea was a combination of Beast Boy from Teen Titans and a Ram. I liked it so much, I was even thinking about doing a Ram Series where I make a bunch of monochromatic goat faces and they all are one big happy family. Next color would be Pink :D Hopefully that gave you some insights on my stylistic choices! Mwah!
